The days are getting longer and with this time of year can come late nights and early wake ups for children. Big Robot is very much a night owl and if the sun is still up he wants to be too, we have a black out blind for his bedroom (which gets the evening sun) to help him get to sleep.

Little Robot is the opposite, he’s straight to sleep at night however he’ll jump out of bed with the sun rise in the morning. Unfortunately, I now know all too well that sunrise in May is around 5am.

The Robots in this house love craft activities so we decided to try Toucan Box. Toucan Boxes are craft activities through your letterbox. It seems you can get lots of things in letterbox shaped boxes these days, I’ve heard of beauty boxes, snack boxes, I recently tried a letterbox cake and now there’s craft boxes too.

There’s three Toucan Box sizes to choose from with different amount of craft activities in each. We had a petite Toucan Box which is £3.95 plus 98p delivery. There’s a new theme every fortnight but you can change delivery frequency or cancel whenever you like by logging into your account.

Hama Beads Bumper Activity Set

For an extra Easter treat I like to get the boys something other than a chocolate egg. Usually it’s a game we can play together such as Mousetrap or Gator Goal. This year I thought they had plenty of games, especially as we got BBQ Party at Christmas and Big Robot recently spent his pocket money on Operation. That’s a lot of games, time for something different this Easter.

So I thought a new craft activity would be ideal and I’d seen adverts for Beados, Aquabeads and Hama Beads lately. All are a similar idea, little coloured beads you create pictures with. I wasn’t sure which was best. I worried that Beados and Aquabeads might not stick together and stay together forever as they only stick by spraying on water. I also saw that Hama Beads, which you iron to stick them together, were available in big tubs and also Hobbycraft have an own brand version which work the same and are cheaper.

My boys love role play toys, including play kitchens and play food, so when Big Robot saw Barbecue Party by Drumond Park advertised on the telly he loved the idea of the game.

Barbecue Party by Drumond Park - Toy Review

Inside the box is a friendly faced barbecue grill, food pieces, food cards, tongs and of course the instructions. The aim of the game is to be the first person to collect 3 pieces of food. First you pick one of the food cards and place the plastic food piece that matches it onto the barbecue. Careful! It might jump and all the food flies off! If you pick a card and the food piece is already on the barbecue, you have to carefully take the food off and keep it. Once you have three food pieces, you’ve won the game!

Chad Valley Vets Surgery Play Tent Review

Big Robot is 6.5 years old and loves role play, anything realistic is his favourite. Playing policemen, fire fighters, doctors and chefs are some of his favourites. He liked the look of the Chad Valley Vets Surgery Play Tent for his birthday last year so he could play vets too.

The play tent comes folded into a bag so you can fold it down and store it away when you’re not using it. The only problem is I can never get it folded to fit back in the bag but it’s close enough! It can then fit into a cupboard or under a bed when the boys aren’t playing with it.
