As I walked into my local supermarket yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice the shelves of pale pink, flowery items. Gone are the hearts, roses and champagne bottles of Valentines Day, in are the fluffy teddies, flower shaped candles and boxes of chocs. This can only mean one thing. Mother’s Day will be here soon.

I’m sure my mum has had enough of fluffy teddies and boxes of chocs by now. I’m the same, my kids are 6 and 4 so they think mummy would love a fluffy teddy since they’d love it themselves. It’s all very cute and I love their smiley faces as they unwrap my presents but it would be nice not to have another teddy or candle gathering dust.

Spring is slowly starting to creep in, daffodils are opening and trees will soon blossom, bringing some much needed colour after a grey, wet winter. With this time of year bringing flowers outside our homes, it’s always nice to bring some inside as well.

Maybe it’s for a special occasion since Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Easter are just around the corner. Maybe it’s just to treat yourself and brighten your home. Whatever the reason, do you go to an independent florist, a chain florist or elsewhere? How about supermarkets, aren’t they just one step up from petrol station flowers?
