Elf on the Shelf - Day 17 - Sleeping Elf

Elfie decided he needed a rest, all his nocturnal activities had finally worn him out. Plus he needed to save his energy for what he had planned the next night. It would take bravery and skill, he needed to be alert and raring to go for his expedition. Climbing a Christmas tree is serious business and only for elves who know what they’e doing, it’s no laughing matter. Unless your 7 or 5, then it’s absolutely hilarious…

Another week, another load of Elf adventures. On Saturday night, Elfie decided he’d play with Little Robots Hot Wheels Nitrobot toy. He’s a brave little Elf, not scared by a mean robot, so on Saturday morning we found him like this…

On Sunday night, Elfie felt a bit homesick. He missed the chill of the North Pole so set about recreating some snowy fun. He seemed to know I wouldn’t be happy to find flour or icing sugar all over the floor and he used cotton wool for his snow angel instead. That little mischievous elf is still in our home getting up to all sorts of things during the night. On Friday night he decided to build a snowman…with no snow. He used toilet rolls instead and borrowed the kids hats and scarfs. Big Robot was the first one downstairs Saturday morning, we heard him cracking up with laughter all the way upstairs.

On Saturday we visited the local Christmas tree festival, something we love to do every year. Then later on we put up our own Christmas tree with new decorations so, for the first time, it looks amazing to Little Robot too. On Sunday morning we found Elfie counting money, not sure what he wants to go shopping for.

Earlier this year, we discovered Little Robot is colour blind. From then on, things made sense. How he’d struggled to learn colours when we tried to teach him. Why he’d always draw in black or dark blue. Why he’d tell me his favourite colour was black.

It came as no big surprise to me, after all my brother is colour blind, my granddad was colour blind, it runs in the family. Though hearing those words made me sad. Had he ever felt frustrated, confused, even stupid because he couldn’t see colours the same as us and we didn’t know. That thought and one other upset me greatly at the time.
