Elf on the Shelf – Day 1 and 2

Yesterday I shared my 24 Elf on the Shelf ideas because this is our first year of Elf mischief. We decided Elfie would arrive on 1st December, yet 11pm on the 30th November got here and nothing had been done!

So I dig Elfie out of the cupboard and plait some wool to make a rope. I stuck it into the fireplace because surely an Elf would climb down the chimney. I get back to my computer, I must write a letter from Father Christmas to explain this Elf thing. My mind is blank. I consult the wise one for ideas, the one who knows everything worth knowing…Google. I decided not to do the Elf-is-watching-to-report-to-Santa thing (too much like 1984!) and I wrote that Elfie has come to visit but may get up to some mischief instead.

So a letter is written, printed and put next to the fireplace with our new Christmas elf and his rope. Phew! Job done!

Unfortunately, as Elfie arrived so did Little Robots tummy bug. We tucked ourselves into bed shortly before midnight and were woken an hour later by the sound of a small child throwing up. Not the best start to December!

Disappearing into a whirlwind of steam and washing powder, I’ve cleaned the house from top to bottom. All the while praying those pesky germs won’t infect everyone else. I panic ordered an online food shop since tummy bugs and supermarkets don’t mix yet the cupboards are empty. My uneaten Advent calendar chocolate remains by the fireplace.

Halfway through the day and there’s been no further reappearance of his meals. Maybe we’re safe?! Maybe I’ve jinxed it now (turned out to be the latter). Either way, plenty of cuddles with Elfie have cheered him up. Little Robot has taken a shine to Elfie, now I wonder if I should have bought two!

This morning the boys were excited to see what Elfie got up to during the night. Little Robot was a little worried that Elfie might have been in his room and moved his cuddly toys. He was so sure he didn’t do it himself during the night, he had a wobbly bottom lip and everything. Uh oh, I hope this elf thing isn’t going to give him nightmares!

He seemed reassured and amused to see Elfie had in fact been playing computer games all night.

Tsk tsk. Elfie, did you get any sleep?!

I did wanted to do the Elf thing also this year – but I just could find a friendly Elf looking – they all looked a bit scary to me. lol! I love your Elf – where did you get him from. I think I will get two for my kids as well for next year of course. 🙂 Thank you so much for linking up with us. It is always lovely to have you here on #FabFridayPost Looking forward to hear more of your little Elf’s adventure. x

Thanks, he’s feeling much better now. Fortunately no one else got the tummy bug, phew! I hunted round the town, and eventually found Elfie in Card Factory. He definitely was one of the friendlier looking ones. Thanks for hosting #FabFridayPost

  3. I love the Elf on the Shelf, and yours looks particularly friendly! My Husband won’t let us do it, as he says our house is a big enough mess already without an elf contributing! Poor you, having a tummy bug to deal with. Hope you’re all ok now. #FabFridayPosts

Thanks, Little Robot is feeling better now and thankfully no one else got it. Oh yes, Elves certainly can be messy, I’ve already ruled out tipping flour on the floor and making Elf snow angels. My husband tells me how his mum made Father Christmas footprints with flour once, that won’t be happening either because I know who’ll get to clean it up…ME! 😀

  4. Yay! Love the elf ideas. I try to keep the kids entertained with our elf’s antics (“Da-da Dabot” is his name because that’s what happens when 2-year-olds name something). Thanks for the smiles! #FabFridayPost
