As I walked into my local supermarket yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice the shelves of pale pink, flowery items. Gone are the hearts, roses and champagne bottles of Valentines Day, in are the fluffy teddies, flower shaped candles and boxes of chocs. This can only mean one thing. Mother’s Day will be here soon.
I’m sure my mum has had enough of fluffy teddies and boxes of chocs by now. I’m the same, my kids are 6 and 4 so they think mummy would love a fluffy teddy since they’d love it themselves. It’s all very cute and I love their smiley faces as they unwrap my presents but it would be nice not to have another teddy or candle gathering dust.
So, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, Christmas is coming (talk about stating the obvious, ha!) and that means it’s soon time to pig out on Christmas dinner. Yum! Except, sometimes Christmas dinner can be tricky if you have intolerances or allergies which prevent you from eating the usual festive foods.
I’ve had tummy trouble for the past year and have had to remove gluten containing foods from my diet. However, this gives me a Christmas dinner problem. Stuffing mixes contain gluten. Gravy usually does too. Ready to roast potatoes are often coated in flour. Ok, so you can make your own gluten free roast spuds, stuffing and gravy too. It’s not as convenient but it’s doable.
Whilst I love cheesecake, wine and chocolate, I try to eat healthy the majority of the time. When my boys were going through a fussy eating phase, it certainly helped for them to see me trying new things too. Only yesterday, my eldest was whining about eating some banana, “but I’ve already had fruit today, I had some at fruit snack” he whinged. He eventually had some more when I explained our bodies need fruit and vegetables and more than one each day.
Though whilst I try, sometimes it’s not easy. I’m always on the move, whether in or out the house. I’m always doing something so sometimes find myself running out of time to prep veg and cook a meal from scratch. So when Tesco Orchard contacted me about the new Tesco Beautifully Balanced range of frozen food I was interested to try it.
